Dalmatian Rescue Shelters and Other Rescue Groups
Please Remember Them!

Thank goodness for dalmatian rescue groups and other pet rescue organizations.

Millions of animals are killed annually in shelters because of overpopulation, irresponsible breeding, abandonment by uncaring owners and lack of available homes for animals that need them. How many of these are dalmatians (or dalmations) is unknown.

What IS known?

Rescue groups are saving many of them!

A web search for dalmatian rescue came back with over 300,000 results. A search for pet rescue in general came back with over 1 million results.

Animals of all kinds need help. Unwanted pets of all kinds need homes!

The Animal Rescue Site
Many rescue groups are underfunded and undermanned. These groups rely heavily on donations and volunteers to provide service. Volunteers often take shelter dogs and rescued dogs from other sources and foster them in their own homes until a loving, permanent, home can be found. Within this environment the fostered dog is encouraged and given the opportunity to learn to trust, to overcome stress and work out any problems both mental and physical that often are found in pets who are abandoned or mistreated by a former owner.

Not all rescued dogs come from a bad situation. Many are not "problem" animals.

Many are in shelters or with rescue groups because the owner may have died, has health issues, financial issues, and other good reasons for being unable to care for the dog. If you think the dog is indifferent to finding itself no longer living with its family or within its familiar environment, think again. Dogs in these situations are often lonely, depressed, and suffer with anxiety from the separation. All they need is a responsible and loving new owner and home to turn them into wonderful, happy, loyal companions again.

Many rescue groups will tell you that the older the dog, the harder it is to place them in homes.

It's a sad fact that loving, well-behaved older dogs are often overlooked when someone comes to adopt. If you think about it, adopting an older dog has many plusses!

  • The dog is most likely already housebroken.
  • He or she will often already know and respond to many verbal commands.
  • They sleep all night unlike puppies and younger dogs.
  • Also, what you see is what you are getting! No guessing as to their adult size or their temperment.
If you love dals and you have room in your home (and heart) for an additional member of the family, please consider contacting your local dalmatian rescue, your local animal shelter, or a national pet rescue organization such as Petfinders.com.

The Dalmation Club of America is also an excellent source for information and groups relating to dalmatian rescue.
