Dalmatian Dog Names

Here are dalmatian dog names (or dalmation dog names) to help you find a name for YOUR spotted friend along with some friendly advice on how to find the one that fits your dog.

First things first!

Please remember that your dog's name is something that will be
used around other people. Think carefully when you are choosing. A name like "Crapper" yelled out loud in a public place several times (or even once) will probably not win you or your dog any respect nor new friends. However, anything goes with nicknames used in private.

Give yourself a couple of days (or more) before settling on a name. Of course, if the name just doesn't fit, you can always change it. Hopefully you will not have been using it for long. Changing a name after you have been using it for two or three weeks can be confusing for the dog.

Often a dog's behaviour and temperment is helpful when deciding on a name. For example, does he often grab toys and other things and take off with them? Bandit might an appropriate name. Is he extremely outgoing and friendly? Happy or Lucky might fit.

A dog's appearance lends itself to many great dalmatian dog names such as Dottie, Patches, or Freckles.

It may be that a name is not really about the dog at all. There may be a name from a movie character that YOU really like which might fit your dog. Rocky and Duke are a couple of examples.

Sometimes, favorite foods inspire us to name our dog. How about Oreo or Snickers?

In a nutshell, have fun, be creative and check out the numerous websites dedicated to dog names of all kinds. Some will even show you the nationality of the name as well as the meaning behind it.

Oh, and one more thing! Once you have the perfect name, be sure and get an ID tag or other source of identity for your pal. Pet identification is so important! This kind of information could save you a lot of heartbreak.

For those of you who loved the Disney movies, here is a link to a webpage which lists the dalmatian dog names from the original 101 Dalmatians story and from the sequel 102 Dalmatians. I cannot vouch for the authenticity of each name, but it appears the author did his homework!
